When Winter was still bringing cold, short days to me in the Pacific Northwest as March was winding down, I had to get away to somewhere warm and tropical. An invitation to join friends in Laos was tempting indeed but this year, I could not bring myself to endure that marathon travel and the ensuing jet lag recovery. So when a friend from Vancouver returned from Roatan quite excited about her new discovery there, my interest was piqued.
Leave my home in the early morning and be taking a refreshing swim by sunset in a quiet cove in West End, Roatan island Caribbean turquoise waters? Twist my arm!! My flight was booked within a week and I found myself flying directly into the island after a relatively short, easy airline journey.
The next two weeks, I found myself leaving my comfortable beach front cabin early each day for adventures such as scuba diving, sailing excursions, sunset/ moonlight horseback rides, snorkeling the reef, exploring the island on a scooter, visiting botanical gardens, an iguana farm and having a very memorable dolphin encounter. In the evening, there was a choice of a dozen or more unique restaurants and bars with local entertainment. Even a movie "theater" with a sand floor serving home cooked Italian cuisine by candlelight.
Roatan and the other Bay Islands of Honduras captured my heart and inspired me to buy a newly built beautiful wood vacation home to return to often and relax in an atmosphere that still remains very small village like where everyone seems to know each other. A visitor can easily navigate around with the many services offered, elegant or local rustic. Or just spend quiet days on the deck of this beautiful home reading, enjoying the island breezes that rustle the trees as the sunset displays it's color over the sea from the great view of the Caribbean.
Elegant furnishings, luxurious large tiled bathrooms, a large walk in closet, a spacious living room and kitchen with all you need to set up your vacation home away from home. Do your laundry and cook at home or send it out with the maid service and dine out by torch light on the sand. It's those big decisions that will be all you have to contemplate as the days melt one into the other at your Scotty's Honduran Hideaway on beautiful Roatan.
A five minute walk from your hillside view to the beach will provide a range of activities for all ages and interests. Pack a few things and get going to this special home on Roatan, Islas de Baia, Honduras.
